Feeling a little cooped up right now? Me, too.
Staying in (when we can) is important for our health and safety. It’s the kind thing to do for our community, too. But let me tell you – going on month 6 of this is starting to wear heavy on my soul.
That’s why I’ve started to explore more about the power of the plant I love. I’ve been a cannabis user since college, but how much do I ~really~ know about this magical green?
In my deep dive into the educational books out there, I also found some interesting reads on psychedelics. This isn’t something I’ve tried personally, but I’m definitely curious about. Cannabis falls into the “psychedelic plant” category, so often you’ll find books that speak to both. I’m here for it!
Without further ado, here’s my round-up of 9 educational (yet approachable) books that you can add to your stoner girl reading list today.
The Rebel’s Apothecary: A Practical Guide to the Healing Magic of Cannabis, CBD, and Mushrooms

“When her father was diagnosed with cancer, Jenny Sansouci became a citizen scientist. She diligently poured herself into the research of natural medicine, specifically cannabis and medicinal mushrooms, and the result is The Rebel’s Apothecary. While not a substitute for appropriate medical care, this book provides two of the important ingredients we need when a loved one is diagnosed with cancer or a chronic, debilitating, or painful condition: tools to help mitigate their suffering, and possibly improve their immunity, resilience, and health. Help and hope. That’s what this book is all about—and who doesn’t need that?” Shop it here on Amazon.
Mary Jane: The Complete Marijuana Handbook for Women

“Covering the aspects of cannabis that matter most to women, Mary Jane takes readers on a guided tour through the new world of marijuana, where using pot can be healthy, fun, stylish, and safe. In Mary Jane, marijuana expert Cheri Sicard reveals everything women have needed to know but may have been afraid to ask about using cannabis. ” Shop it on Amazon.
Magic Medicine: A Trip Through the Intoxicating History and Modern-Day Use of Psychedelic Plants and Substances

“Cody Johnson beautifully balances historical knowledge with cutting-edge science to produce a thoroughly enjoyable and enlightening read which paints a holistic picture of the risks and benefits of psychedelic use in modern day medicine and culture.” Shop it here on Amazon.
A Woman’s Guide to Cannabis: Using Marijuana to Feel Better, Look Better, Sleep Better–and Get High Like a Lady

“Let me start by saying I read this book in 2 days. This is a must read if you want to understand the world of Medicinal Cannabis. I work in a medical cannabis dispensary and have to say this book was instrumental in helping be learn about the world of Medical Cannabis, terpenes, cannabinoids and the healing power of cannabis with minimal side effects. I recommend this book to my patients on a daily basis. It helps the patient gain a thorough understanding of CBD/THC therapy.” Shop it here on Amazon.
Cannabis Revealed: How the world’s most misunderstood plant is healing everything from chronic pain to epilepsy

“I just finished Dr. Goldstein’s book. It could be the most important book on the treatment of medical issues you’ll ever buy. She clearly explains for us lay people the main aspects of cannabis and its medical applications. Doctors, along with anyone in the medical field, should also read this book. Each section is backed up by numerous references to scientific studies. Cannabis has been used as a medicine for thousands of years. It’s a crime that it was made illegal in the early 1940’s. The fact that it has medical benefits is undeniable. It’s hard to read the numerous patient stories in the book and not be moved by the amazing results. As Dr. Goldstein said, it’s not a miracle, it is medicine. I hope everyone gets a chance to read this book.” Shop it here on Amazon.
How to Change Your Mind: What the New Science of Psychedelics Teaches Us About Consciousness, Dying, Addiction, Depression, and Transcendence

“Very few writers, if any, have the gravitas and journalistic cred to tackle this explosive subject—from both the outside and the inside—extract it from its nationally traumatic and irrationally over reactive past, and bring both reason and revelatory insight to it. Michael Pollan has done just that. This is investigative journalism at its rigorous and compelling best— and radically mind opening in so many ways just to read it.” Shop it here on Amazon.
The Leafly Guide to Cannabis: A Handbook for the Modern Consumer

“This book is very informative & helpful to new & existing users as well as the just plain curious. It can answer probably any question you can come up with. It’s chapters are laid out in such a way that you can read it cover to cover if you wanted to while more experienced users might enjoy reading it as a quick reference guide. It goes over some history, types of plants, specific strains & how they would make you feel. There are many chapters on how to use it & even recipes in the edibles chapter. I feel this book has the potential to reach a wide range of demographics & will help readers make informed decisions when considering the use of cannabis.” Shop it here on Amazon.
Finding Your Higher Self: Your Guide to Cannabis for Self-Care

“In Finding Your Higher Self, Sophie Saint Thomas effortlessly guides readers into creating affirming and spiritual experiences all inspired by the healing and downright magical effects of cannabis. Filled with research, scientific data, and only rituals of self-care a witch could write, this book helps readers find their most authentic selves while helping to remove the stigma of working with this plant. From meditation to creative rituals to new ways of interacting with cannabis, this book is an indispensable guide to self-care for mind, body, and soul. Whether you’re a longtime stoner or are just now starting on your plant-medicine journey, you will find something of importance and value in these pages as you connect with your higher self.” Shop it here on Amazon.
The Essential Cannabis Book: A Field Guide for the Curious

“A Field Guide for the Curious is extremely approachable. There’s no hype — this is a well-researched book with solid information and stories about real people that show us why this is an important conversation to have, independent of political leanings or current personal health status. The book has the editorial approach of a textbook and the readability of a favorite coffee table book. This is my go-to holiday gift this year, and this will be my next book club pick, too.” Shop it here on Amazon.

Yes! My first intro to Pollan was on the Netflix series Cooked. It blew my mind! Still diving into his other works, too. Glad I have all this relaxing reading time on my hands.
