gruvi non alcoholic beer pairs well with cannabis heyhellohigh

My love for cannabis has me hopping on the non-alcoholic beer bandwagon. Here’s why.

Can craft beer and cannabis play nice? If the thought of combining the two brings up bad memories of getting cross-faded, you’re not alone.

That’s why I was so excited to learn about Gruvi, a Denver, Colorado-based brewery that’s creating delicious drinks that don’t get you buzzed. I tried their Weisse and IPA beers, along with their Prosecco wine, all alcohol-free.

The Gruvi sample pack arrived in the ~cutest~ packaging.

I have to admit, I was skeptical going in – my only experience with non-alcoholic beer in the past was with bland, watered down lagers. And non-alcoholic Prosecco? This was a entirely new experience for me.

But babes, let me tell you – these beverages are on a whole ‘nother flavor level.

It was a great experience to be able to enjoy cannabis along with the delicious terpene tastes in Gruvi’s drinks without the extra intoxicating effects. I had a tasty IPA along with some Super Lemon Haze, and the citrus flavors paired perfectly.

Then on Sunday, I had friend over for brunch who happens to be pregnant. We enjoyed a Gruvi Mimosa with the alcohol-free Prosecco, and didn’t miss the buzz one bit.

The Gruvi team hooked me up with some swag, too – how sweet are they?

Curious about the inspiration behind these beverages and the team that created them, I was lucky enough to chat with one of their co-founders to learn more.

Hear their founding story, dream celeb hire, and 5 year plan below!

Thanks for chatting with us! Tell us a little bit about your role at Gruvi, and how you came to work at the company.

My name is Niki and I’m one of the founders of Gruvi, along with my sister and parents. We also happened to have great timing when we started the business- I was taking some time to travel, and my sister Anika had just graduated college. My parents are both retired, so the whole family was ready and eager to help build Gruvi.

What inspired you to start the company?

The idea behind Gruvi started when our family attended a cannabis legalization party in Canada. Alcohol was flowing and everyone was consuming cannabis, though we quickly realized that the two substances weren’t mixing well together (especially for those that were new to cannabis). We thought since cannabis is healthy and social, it would be great to have a line of drinks that could complement the experience without the risks of cross-fading or being sick. That’s how Gruvi was born: a line of healthy craft beers and wines without alcohol.

What’s a big win you celebrated at Gruvi in 2019?

Finally getting Gruvi on the shelves! We launched on 4/20 of 2019.

gruvi is a non-alcoholic beer brand for cannabis enthusiasts with an active lifestyle

You can pick one celebrity to work on your team at Gruvi. Who do you hire?

Seth Rogan. Not only is he a sort of cannabis celebrity, we would love to have him around for comedic relief too.

What music do you jam to when you really need to get some major work done?

Definitely tech house or deep house, it can get you into a productivity trance!

Where do you see Gruvi five years from now?

It’s hard to say since our brand has already evolved so much since our launch. I’m just excited to watch the company grow and move beyond Colorado. There are so many people that would benefit from our product, and I want to make sure it’s accessible around the country.

What is your favorite way to consume cannabis? What strain are you loving currently?

Definitely smaller dose edibles, I’m enjoying the consistency and fast-acting edibles on the market. Perfect for many occasions.

What cannabis brands do you think are killing it on social media right now?

I really dig Stillwater brands- they really embrace the lifestyle and active side of cannabis, and I’m really into that. Their products are some of my favorites when it comes to edibles!

Tell us something we should know about Gruvi (that we might not be able to find out from your website):

We don’t make our beer like any other NA (non-alcoholic) beers on the market. Most brew to full strength then boil off the alcohol, by boiling off alcohol, you get rid of the natural taste and integrity of the beer. We use a process called arrested fermentation, which essentially halts the production of alcohol in the brewing process. It’s how we are able to make our beer taste like the real thing!
